Students Compete in Newspaper Competition with Microsoft Publisher




10 schools are vying to create the best tabloid in The Straits Times National Schools Newspaper Competition.

The finalists include Anglo Chinese School (Barker Road), Cedar Girls’ Secondary School, Pei Hwa Secondary School, Jurong Secondary School, Raffles Girls’ School, St Joseph’s Institution, Victoria School, and Yuying Secondary School, CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School and Raffles Institution.

The finals will be held at Singapore Press Holdings’ News Centre from 18 to 19 November. 24 hours is all that is given to produce the best newspaper. The wining team will walk away with the gold award, $3000 and a month-long internship in The Straits Times newsroom.

Silver, bronze, merit and consolation awards are also up for grabs.

The week before battle day, the teams will undergo training conducted by COMAT, to learn how to use Microsoft Publisher, the official software of the finals.

The competition which is partnered by Microsoft and COMAT seeks to increase students’ interest in news and putting together a newspaper.
